UnitedHealthcare (UHC) released 1st quarter 2014 financials on April 17th, adding 170,000 Medicare supplement lives in the 1st quarter of 2014. Lives is a net number of new policy holders less policies lost or cancelled.
United Healthcare currently leads the Medicare Supplement with nearly 1/3 of the Medicare Supplement market, and covers 3,625,000 Medicare Supplement policy holders as of 3/31/2014 – a 300,000 increase in the past 12 months or a 9.0% increase over 2013.
But individuals should continue to shop diligently for value in the Medicare Supplement market. As of this date UHC does not offer a Plan G in any of the markets in which it participates. And plan G has is fast becoming a popular and cost competitive option for Medicare Supplement holders.
